Tips on Photos

Contact Me

I hope you enjoy looking around my website. I have been drawing and painting since childhood and have at least 20 years experience in drawing and painting portraits. In that time I have completed a wide variety of subjects from people to racing pigeons and have a 100% record for customer satisfaction. If however you are not completely satisfied with your portrait I offer a full money back guarantee.
I work exclusively from photographs (which are always treated with care and returned undamaged) so the higher the quality of the photo the more detail I can see and therefore include in the portrait.

Photos

As I have mentioned the quality of the photo is quite important, it must be in focus (especially the eyes as they are "the windows to the soul") and ideally the subject must fill the frame of the photo without cropping off any features such as, top of head, tips of ears etc.
If you are in any doubt of the quality of your photo you can always email it to me and I can advise on whether it is suitable. Please note it may be possible to enlarge and improve your photos on my computer. I have completed some beautiful portraits from less than perfect photos.
If you would like a group portrait I can combine more than one photo into one portrait but please try to ensure the direction of the light is the same in each photo.
If you are about to take some photos and would like some advice please have a look at the tips on photos page.
It may be possible for me to take your photo for you, if necessary, for a small extra charge (based on how far I have to travel and time) please contact me for details.

Time

It normally takes about two weeks from the time I receive your photo to complete a portrait but at certain times of the year, such as the lead up to Christmas, it may take a little longer.

Backgrounds

If you would like a background scene in your portrait I can include one for a small extra cost. Please note for a full body study I include a very simple background (for example a patch of grass for the subject to sit or stand on) as standard but if you would like a scenic background to your portrait (for example a garden or landscape scene such as the full body study of the horse in the pastels and charcoal gallery) it would cost an extra £25 for pencil and charcoal portraits and £35 for pastel portraits.
For portraits larger than A3 size or for a particularly complicated background (such as a crowd scene) I would have to charge a little extra (based on how much extra work is involved) please contact me for more details.

Payment

Please forward 25% of the overall cost of the portrait with your order (in Pounds Sterling), the remaining balance becoming due on the completion of your portrait. Please make cheques or postal orders payable to
